Frequently Asked Questions

HAVE NO FEAR VICTORY IS HERE!

WHAT IS SANDBLASTING AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Sandblasting is used to remove paint from stucco and other textured structures.
It is also used to rejuvenate concrete, bringing back the original look of brick, pebbles or other rock designs.
Sandblasting can also be used for metal and wood projects.
In general the term (Sandblasting) is used to describe the act of removing fine bits of material at high-velocity to clean a surface.
Silica sand is the most commonly used material, but any small, relatively uniform particles will work.

DOES SANDBLASTING AFFECT THE WOOD TRIM ON THE EXTERIOR OF CONCRETE OR STUCCO BUILDINGS OR HOMES?

Sandblasting has been used for many years as a method of preparing a surface for the application of paint or a sealant. When painting, one does not want to trap dust, dirt, or bubbles in a previous layer of paint, or other imperfections under the new layer.
By sandblasting, which is a technique of launching small bits of abrasive at the surface at a high speed, all imperfections are loosened and can then be easily washed off.
This creates a smooth surface that is ready for a redesign with new stucco, paint or other forms.

DOES SANDBLASTING DAMAGE ELECTRICAL WIRES, FIXTURES, TELEPHONE WIRES, AND WHAT ABOUT WINDOWS OR ROOFS? ETC.?

Special equipment is used for sandblasting different surfaces. When we are sandblasting a hard surface such as the non-wood exterior of a home, wood trim would be damaged with that equipment.

Our team takes great care in  covering all parts of a structure that may be negatively affected by sandblasting.
For example, removing stucco, we protect the wood trim from being damaged.
When we sandblast wood projects, equipment for that material is utilized that will not damage the wood.
The same applies to metal projects.
In a nutshell, it’s not likely, and that includes windows or roofs.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WET SANDBLASTING AND DRY SANDBLASTING?

Wet sandblasting means water is used in the technique to remove debris such as paint, tex-cote or old stucco, from a structure. This is the most common sandblasting technique.
Dry sandblasting does not utilize water.

Typically dry sandblasting is not permitted except by special permission from the city.

Permission may be granted only in those situations where wet sandblasting cannot be done due to peculiar circumstances.
Any application for dry sandblasting needs to state why wet sandblasting cannot be used.

WHEN WOULD EACH TECHNIQUE BE USED?

Wet sandblasting is typically used for exterior jobs.
Dry sandblasting is used for metal projects.

WILL MY NEIGHBORS’ PROPERTY BE AFFECTED BY THE SANDBLAST PROJECT?

We take every precaution to protect neighboring properties from damage.

Our team will put up thick plastic sheets between your property and your neighbors’ property so damage is avoided.
We recommend you give them notice at least 3-days before we begin your project. They do need to know that sandblasting will take place.
Your neighbors should also be advised to move their vehicles from their property to prevent dust and/or particles from damaging/dirtying the vehicle.

WHAT IF I FORGET TO ALERT MY NEIGHBORS?

We personally notify neighbors as well and we will not start a project if there's someone car near the job site.

IS A CITY PERMIT REQUIRED FOR SANDBLASTING PROJECTS?

Not usually for “Sandblasting” in the city of San Antonio, though it is a good idea to get an update on what your city ordinance is to find out if a permit is required. Which can be found here.
